Enabling Metadata on your SharePoint 2010 site
If you want to use Managed Metadata in your site, such as the navigation or create a column you need to enable some features. Sometimes these features are not enabled by default, for example, if you use the Blank Site template you won’t get these features. If you Google for information on this, you get a wealth of information on setting it up, and managing it but not what features need to be enabled. It seems these features are not present in the UI, or I just couldn’t find them but I found the Guid of the features to be enabled.
So here is how to enable them:
Enable-SPFeature -id "73EF14B1-13A9-416b-A9B5-ECECA2B0604C" -Url <Site-URL> Enable-SPFeature -id "7201D6A4-A5D3-49A1-8C19-19C4BAC6E668" -Url <Site-URL>
The first one enables the content types, columns support etc., the second one enables the metadata navigation options.
