K2 4.6 Setup Issue for Repair and Configure
K2 have picked up an issue with their setup manager, it seems that it wipes the custom categories that are created when you do a “Repair” or “Configure” in the Setup Manager. Apparently this only applies to those who have done a clean install not an update from 4.5. The steps to fix the issue are below:
- Extract the Product.Config file from the product setup.
- Copy the extracted Product.Config to the setup folder of your k2 install. normally it is “C:\Program Files(x86)\K2 Blackpearl’\Setup”.
Ensure that you download the latest installer first:

I am a K2 Insider
Yesterday I was officially made a K2 Insider by K2. The K2 Insider programme is K2’s version of Microsoft’s MVP programme but for K2 specialists. Here is a bit more about the programme, taken from the K2 website:
“K2 Insiders are leaders in the global K2 community. They are K2 advocates, eager to share their expertise and committed to enhancing the K2 community efforts as a whole.
K2 Insiders represent a broad base of skills, experiences and cultures. They come from a variety of backgrounds and hold a range of diverse positions. Insiders tend to seek out new technology and actively communicate their experiences and thoughts to others. Through their various K2 community activities, they strive to help others solve problems, discover new capabilities and get more value from their K2 deployments.”
To be selected for the K2 Insider programme, you must be nominated. This can come from current K2 Insiders or K2 staff.
The benefits of being an insider are pretty good, you have direct access to some of the K2 staff and other insiders via a mailing lists, access to software before released to beta, partners, and the public, and various other cools things as well. Obviously, K2 expects you to be active in the communities, on the websites, blogs, twitter, etc. as well as take part in events that K2 organise from time to time.
I want to thank K2 for the recognition, I wasn’t expecting it and I am looking forward to working with them and the other insiders on improving the K2 products. For more information on the K2 Insiders programme or to see who the Insiders are, click here.
